No Rain, No Rainbows
“Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear”, anonymous
Today it rained for about 7 minutes. And the sun was still out. Which got me thinking about rainbows and, let’s face it, Hawaii b/c it’s on my brain this week. I took a stretch break from my computer and went to the window to look for the rainbow. I didn’t see it, but I know it was out there somewhere.
And that got me feeling a bit more inspired about the tasks at hand today. Isn’t it incredible that in this world of variety, color and life you can feel bland and bored? But it happens all the time. Then guilt sets in for feeling bored. How’s that for useless emotion?
Lately, I’ve been working hard on how I choose to react to the dull or even stressful things that crop up in my day – mean driver, cranky co-worker, stressed out M, less daylight, cloudy day… And I know if I’m having a less than inspiring day (see Monday’s post here), the most important thing I can do is change my circumstances. Maybe I don’t always get to control my work, my relationship, how much money I make, but I can ALWAYS choose my reaction to the things that make up my day.
I think, “What can I do to elevate my mood?” or “How can perk up so I don’t take this blah feeling & run with it?” Here’s a list I came up with. For the record, creating this was something I did to elevate my mood! I highly recommend creating your own list – it’s fun and it worked…
Side Note…I have The Power cd collection in my car. It’s not for everyone, but they are really helpful to me. I’ll pop in a cd when I’m driving to or from work I pop. There are tons of little nuggets of wisdom and easy ideas to elevate your mood. The primary message is feeling love and being grateful – not too tricky. Not too self-helpy or cosmic, just useful information…
I’m all ears for other ideas! As we cruise into the season of shorter days, I’ll be needing as many rainbow moments as I can get, so send em on over! ♥
