Sunshine Kir

On a daily quest for the eternal sunshine!

Month: February, 2013

Mission Accomplished and…Ouch

What an incredible weekend in Arizona! We had such a great time. It was bright and sunny, we logged some pool time, sat in rocking chairs and played checkers at Cracker Barrel, made great memories with Jim (M’s Dad), ran our races, PR’d and had one of the best Mexican meals ever…

I would absolutely recommend the Arizona Marathon (and half) if you are looking for a flat, fast course. The volunteers were so friendly and there was plenty of water/gatorade/portapotties. Something worth noting if you have family coming to spectate: the marathon and half courses are completely different and both point to point. Family/friends are pretty much relegated to the finish line to watch you unless they plan to drive all over. But really, no big deal. The finish was fun with lots of visibility and our hotel was right there so logistics were a piece of cake!

Three days later, M is still a teeny bit stiff, but I’m pretty much back to normal as long as I don’t stand up to fast.

Here is the weekend review in pictures…

Compression & cutoffs. A new trend or fashion disaster...time will tell!

Compression & cutoffs. New trend or fashion disaster…time will tell!

Running and racing (in my case running) may not be easy, but it gives you a goal to work for. It holds me accountable to set a goal and to work hard to make that goal happen. When I sign up for a race it means that those Saturday and Sunday mornings when I’d rather roll over and sleep an extra hour don’t happen (as often) because I know I have to knock out my run or suffer the consequences on race day.

This was the first race I traveled out of the state for. I’m not saying I’d do it all the time. But it was pretty special to have quality time with M and Jim. To talk and road trip and watch a sunset/sunrise in a different place and have memories of realizing a goal together was amazing. Not bad for a weekend in February! ♥

Take a Break – 50 Squats, Don’t Think, Just Do…

Okay, it’s almost 3:00, aka, crash time…instead of grabbing that Snickers let’s take 5 by doing 50 squats…then sit in the “pretend chair” for 60 seconds. Why not grab your co-workers? You can brain storm and tone at the same time.

Gioia, Me & Dawn... multi-tasking

Gioia, Me & Dawn… multi-tasking – a different kind of chair pose!

Dorky you say? Well maybe, but bikini season will be here before you know it and our booties won’t be toning themselves. And if you haven’t seen the new SI swim issue, trust me, it’s chock full of beautiful yet gorgeously, unforgiving cheeky styles. We’re all in this together girls.

Repeat after me, I do not want the Snickers, I do not want the Snickers…In the time it takes you to mull over why you should or shouldn’t do this squat/chair combo, you’ll be done!!! ♥

What a Great Idea!

I love Free People! What girl doesn’t? And, more specifically, I love the Free People blog, Bldg 25. It’s always fun, different, playful and informative. I usually check in a couple times a week and catch up on several entries at a time. This is hands down the best post I’ve read in a while…

Using Your Outfit to Change Your Mood by FP Brigette talks about your eye going to certain pieces in your wardrobe based on your mood. Go take a look at this post. And if you’re smart, you’ll also pick up this cute little number in Tomato – currently on my wish list. Good thing someone has a birthday coming up – hint hint!

Such a great blog post!

Brigette also takes great photos of her wardrobe based on her mood – why didn’t I think to do this? Especially at this time of year when we’re a bit between seasons and possibly uninspired after wearing the same outfits over and over. So this weekend when our normally sunny weather calls for rain, I think I’ll be snapping some shots of outfit configurations!

This outfit reminded me of a favorite forgotten shirt, eureka, calmness coming my way!

This is the first time I’ve “reblogged” any post, that’s how cute and helpful it is for my  future wardrobe planning. Thank you Free People and thank you Brigette!!!

Now time to put up my compression-clad feet up and type up a weekend recap for tomorrow!♥♥♥
